Box3 - Progressive morph per vertex effect

Hello,

First, let me describe what I have been trying to do with vanilla max:

I would like to use a cached animation with each frame acting as a potential ‘target’ in a progressive morph. As a vertex becomes soft-selected, it’s percentage of ‘selected-ness’ is translated into a change in vertex position.

Each vertex moves to match an equivalent vertex from a frame in the cache depending on soft-selection. This is an improvement to the common approach of a volume that feeds a soft selection up the stack to a morpher mod.

As a alternate approach, I wonder if it's possible with Box3 to place a particle on each vertex of the animated base mesh and capture position data of the particles for each frame as they move with the base mesh. Then, recall these particle positions using the proximity of a control object. As the the control object moves closer to the particle, the particle cycles though the sequence of captured positions.

Let me know if this description makes sense, or if I need to add further clarification.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if I follow correctly..

You have an animation, say from 0 to 100.
And you also have the same object with vertex soft selection.
You then want these soft selected vertices to move, but get their positions from the animation timeline?

A soft selection of 0 will get frame 0, a soft selection of 1.0 will get frame 100?

(somewhat similar to how Reaction Manager works I suppose)

Would it be possible for you to describe what type of effect you are trying to achieve?
